My
name is Whopper and I can't stop thinking about pirates.
F-Dawg can't stop thinking about pirates, either. And
no one can stop thinking about pirates--whether they want
to or not--when either one of us is around!
Often
we are asked: how did "this pirates thing"
start (or st'arrrt, translated into Pirate)? Although
everyone is a pirate deep down inside, some people try to
suppress these urges. However, when F-Dawg had a Jimmy
Buffett lyric, "Yes I am a pirate, 200 years too late,"
as an AIM away message, Whopper could not resist pointing
out that F-Dawg wasn't the only pirate around.
Things
were quiet for a while, as school and apathy got in the way
of piracy. However, the team's trip to the 2003 High
Tide tournament in Savannah offered a new opportunity for
pirates to take over the hearts and minds of Pan Fried Funk.
While there are recorded incidences of piracy on the first
couple days of the trip, they are nowhere near the scale reached
after Whopper played his Canada CD that had "The Last
Saskatchewan Pirate" by the Arrogant Worms on it.
After that, Barnacle suddenly became B'ARRnacle, and Whopper
and F-Dawg promised not to get ARRested.
This
was especially fun on the 10-hour drive home. Despite
some claims that Whopper and F-Dawg were saying "H'arr!"
"THE WHOLE TIME," they were quiet for at least a
good 6+ hours of the drive, although it was difficult for
them to contain themselves when they got to the letter after
"Q" in the alphabet game. Besides, everyone
else was cranky, leading one to wonder whether their crankiness
might have been related to the fact that they weren't saying
"h'arrr!" in the back seat. In fact, neither
Whopper nor F-Dawg has been cranky since turning pirate, but
Fricker and Devo have been cranky a combined 42 times.
Coincidentally,
in another corner of the galaxy known as the Outer Banks,
Andi and Donnie also became pirates over Spring Break.
And people thought they were going to escape us once they
got back to Gettysburg...
