INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCESSING CLEA'S ANONYMOUS FTP SITE
You must be connected to the Internet. Your host computer
must run the "ftp" (file transfer) program.
Type
ftp io.cc.gettysburg.edu
. Some local networks may
not recognize our name, in which case our network address can be
used:
ftp 138.234.4.10
When connection is established, our computer will prompt you:
--login
To which you respond:
anonymous
Our computer will then prompt:
--Guest login ok, sent ident as password
To which you respond with your Internet address.
Welcome to the ftp!
To change to a directory where files are stored, type
cd [directory name]
(Do not type the angle brackets.) The names
of the directories of interest are:
/pub/clea_products/mac for MAC labs and documentation.
/pub/clea_products/pc for PC labs and documentation.
/pub/images for images.
To list the contents of a directory, type
dir
In each directory, README files provide an overview of the
contents of files.
To transfer a file to your host machine, type
bin
to set the
transfer mode to binary or
ASCII
for text and README files.. Then, mindful of case, simply type:
get [filename]
and, within a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on the size
of the file and the state of the network, you should have the file
over on your machine. If you are using MAC ftp software, these commands
may be issued by pointing and clicking on a menu.
When you are finished transferring files, please log out of the
ftp server by typing quit or bye
